Debris & Prohibited Items
What can I put in a dumpster rental?
You can put most common non-hazardous household and construction debris in our dumpsters. This includes:
- Household Junk: Furniture (sofas, chairs, tables), toys, mattresses, clothing, general clutter.
- Construction Debris: Wood (lumber, fencing, decking), drywall, roofing shingles, siding, insulation.
- Remodeling Debris: Cabinets, countertops, flooring (carpet, tile, wood), fixtures.
- Yard Waste: Branches, shrubs, grass clippings, leaves. (Note: Yard waste generally cannot be mixed with construction debris).
What can I NOT put in a dumpster? (Prohibited Items)
For safety and environmental reasons, we cannot accept any hazardous materials. Prohibited items include, but are not limited to:
- Electronics: TVs, computers, monitors, printers.
- Appliances: Refrigerators, freezers, AC units, washers, dryers.
- Hazardous Waste: Paint, stains, lacquers, oils (motor oil, etc.), fuels.
- Automotive: Tires, car batteries, fluids.
- Other: Asbestos, medical waste, batteries of any kind, hot water heaters.
If you have any of these items, please call us. We can direct you to the proper disposal facilities in the Reno or Carson City area.
Can I put heavy materials like concrete, dirt, or asphalt in the dumpster?
Yes, but with special rules. These heavy materials cannot be mixed with other debris and must be loaded into a dedicated 15-yard dumpster. This is due to public road weight limits. Please let us know when you call that you have heavy debris so we can provide the correct container.
Sizing, Process & Placement
What size dumpster do I need?
- 15-Yard: Best for smaller projects like a garage cleanout, small kitchen or bath remodel, or a small deck removal.
- 20-Yard: Our most popular size. Great for larger cleanouts, medium-sized remodels, or roofing shingle tear-offs.
- 30-Yard: For major projects like new construction, a full home addition, or a complete house cleanout.
For a complete breakdown of dimensions, truckload capacities, and detailed project examples, please see our Dumpster Rental Sizes page. You can also just call our team, tell us about your project, and we’ll recommend the perfect size.
Do I need a permit for my dumpster?
- On Your Property: No. If the dumpster is placed entirely on your private property (like your driveway or yard), a permit is typically not required.
- On the Street: Yes. If the dumpster needs to be placed on a public street, sidewalk, or right-of-way, you will almost certainly need a permit from your city (Reno, Sparks, Carson City) or county. Please check with your local municipality first.
How do I prepare my driveway for delivery?
Please ensure the area where the dumpster will be placed is completely clear of any cars, trailers, equipment, or debris. Our trucks need a significant amount of clear space to back in and safely unload the container. If you are concerned about your driveway, ask us about placing wooden boards down for protection.
How full can I fill the dumpster?
You can fill the dumpster level with the top rim. Debris cannot be piled up or sticking out over the top. Our drivers must be able to place a tarp over the load to transport it safely and legally. Overfilled dumpsters will be subject to an extra fee or may be left on-site until the load is corrected.
Pricing & Rental Period
How much does a dumpster rental cost?
Our pricing is all-inclusive and starts at $725. The final dumpster rental price depends on several key factors, including the dumpster size, your exact location, the type of debris, and the total weight of your load.
For a detailed explanation of what’s included in your quote and how these factors influence your final cost, please see our Dumpster Rental Pricing page. Your free quote from us will always include delivery, pickup, a 10-day rental, and all landfill fees up to a generous weight limit.
What is the standard rental period?
Our standard rental period is 10 days, which is included in your quote.
What if I finish with my dumpster early?
No problem. Just give us a call, and we will schedule your pickup, often for the next business day.
What if I need to keep the dumpster longer?
We’re flexible! If you need more time, just call our office to arrange an extension. We offer affordable, flat-rate daily fees.
What are "overage fees"?
Your rental quote includes a generous weight limit (e.g., 2-4 tons, depending on the size). An overage fee is a pro-rated charge that only applies if the final weight of your debris, as measured at the landfill, exceeds this included limit. We will always notify you and provide a certified weight ticket if this happens.
